How to install truck running boards

:
If you are a pick up truck or SUV owner, one of the most popular accessories for these types of vehicles are running boards. Running boards are particularly useful as they allow easier access to your truck’s cabin in addition to simply “lookin’ good”. You can outfit your vehicle yourself with running boards by following three simple steps. Depending on the brand of running board you purchase, the procedures involved may vary somewhat.

Lund running boards are industry hot sellers and the company helps make installation a breeze by outlining how to get the job done:

1. Insert the square head bolts into the extruded channels on the underside of the board, then attach the Multi-Fit brackets loosely with supplied washers and nuts.

2. After determining mounting position on the truck, the end caps and step pads are attached with matching black rivets.

3. Mounting methods vary slightly with application. Multi-Fit Running boards are bolted in place with clip nuts and bolts at factory holes. Tighten after determining alignment is correct.

That’s it! Before you know it your running boards are securely in place and ready for use.

When shopping for running boards, please note that the quality of the products marketed can vary. A top of the line running board such as those sold by Lund or Westin running boards is typically made out of tough polymer materials or diamond plated aluminum and will, therefore, adequately hold your weight and resist deterioration. You can order running boards that light up, choose boards that have a wide step area, and even select running boards that allow you to paint the shell yourself.

Running boards are made for SUVs from the Kia Sorento to the Ford Expedition, and for trucks from the Toyota Tacoma to the GMC Sierra Denali. Mounting kits are usually sold separately, so before completing your order make sure that all the parts as well as instructions are included with your shipment.

By shopping with a reputable online retailer and installing the running boards yourself you can save plenty of money and have the satisfaction of knowing that you did the installation.

Safety motorcycle helmets

Motorcycle helmet is used as a protective gear for the head to avoid severe injuries brought about by accidents. In some countries, wearing helmet is comparable to wearing seatbelts, regulated as part of the street ordinances as general safety measure. But of course, any promulgation imposed is debatable and others would drop the matter in every philosophical manner they can give reason against its use.

Looking at the physical make-up of motorcycles will not guarantee pure salvation in every imaginable trauma. When used, it can only lessen the severity. To have an understanding on its function it is important to know how fatal head injuries can disable a person in one incident. When it comes to serious matters like heavy impact, a helmet is nothing. The most important thing about skull fractures is to avoid the fragments from embedding the sensitive tissues of the brain, until then, most head injuries are not as fatal as expected. Basically, a full-blown impact on head can lead to permanent malfunctioning of the body system.

Another kind of fatal head injury caused by motorcycle accident is when the brain is stirred while there is no open wound in the head. In this case the brain bumps the side of the skull leading to small yet deadly movements and rotation enough to cause internal bleeding inside. The use of properly designed motorcycle helmet can help absorb the shock in the head after it sinks to its protective cushions. It must not be too soft to let the head crush through its hard interior walls at once. After that, the hard plastic will yield without control. Helmet design considerations are all about the tolerable impact the head can handle, which the soft linings provide as protection, and the exterior protection from punctures.

Types of motorcycle helmets for effective use come in different appearance:

FULL FACE - Covers the full area of the back of the head, chin but has a shield made of plastic in the eye area for visibility. It is usually ventilated though some still consider it warmer and lacking flow of air inside. It tends to isolate a rider and restrain hearing because of full head coverage.

OPEN FACE - Almost the same as the full face design except it has no chin cover, which means it has low protection for the face. It has a plastic shield open to particles during a ride. It can cause injuries out of trapped small debris caught on speed. Thus, it is advisable to wear riding goggles as additional protection for the eyes.

Motorcycle helmet may not give ultimate protection but it saved a lot of lives during minor injuries.

You found a car now you have to finance a car

Finding your car was the easy part now you have to finance a car and that is when your problems can really begin if you know very little about loans and car financing in particular. If you look around for finance options then you will often be left confused over the terms and of course not understand the difference between fixed or variable loans. Here is where you can save yourself a lot of time and grief if you choose to go with a specialist in car financing.

Comparing car finance is essential if you want to get the lowest rate of interest and the best offers, however unless you know where to look this can take time, that is providing you even know where to look and what to look for when it comes to getting the best deals. A specialist in car insurance knows what to look for on your behalf when it comes to having to finance a car.

The terms used in the world of financing can be confusing and this is one of the biggest ways that putting your car financing into the hands of a specialist can benefit you, loans also vary widely from lender to lender and if you don’t understand them then you simply aren’t able to get the best deal available. The majority of us when looking ourselves will simply look for the lowest payment and if this has been quoted in weekly terms and the APR isn’t taken into account it could add up to a lot over the yearly period.

Always make it quite clear how much you want to spend when it comes to having to finance a car, this includes the total amount that you will have to repay along with how much you can afford to repay every month. These facts have to be weighed up because if you want a very low monthly repayment then of course you will have to take the loan out for longer but then you will be paying more interest and this does add up regardless of how low the rate of interest is.

Choosing a model railroad building kit

Model railroad building kits are extremely popular today. They sell in huge numbers every day because more and more people are beginning to discover the pure beauty and charm that model railways have to offer. They were initially designed to preserve the old style railroads perfectly and the scale train models actually do that. They are simply miniature versions of reality. As a result, they capture the imagination of adults and children alike. Model railroading building kits therefore seem to have a universal appeal that few other toys or models do.

A model railroad building kit has a few integral elements that come as standard. There will almost certainly be a train and a track set in every kit, as well as some model scenery such as landmarks, signage and buildings to brighten it up somewhat and make your kits seem more complete as a result. However, every model railroad building kit is completely different and the tips below will help you to choose the right one for you.

Firstly, model railroad building kits are offered for sale in a variety of sizes. These are commonly known as scales and have a letter to notify buyers of the size. The size is a ratio of how big the replica is to the original. Sometimes a model railroad building kit will have a letter and sometimes it will have a ratio but it very rarely has both. Every brand of model railroad building kit seems to have its own scale but there are some popular ones that seem to be universal.

1. G scale – this is effectively the largest model railroad building kit that you can get. It is 1/22 the size of a real train and track. Sometimes the G scale will be as large as 1/8 the real size, although this largely depends on the manufacturer.

2. O scale – this is almost half of the size of the G scale at 1/48 of a real train. They are actually roughly about 30 inches in width and runs on a much narrower track but retain all of the detail.

3. HO scale – this is exactly half of the size of the O scale train, with the H standing for half. In other words, the ratio is 1/87.

4. Z scale – as it is the last letter of the alphabet, it stands to reason that the Z scale is the smallest size possible in relation to the ratio of a real life train and is actually 1/220. These model railroad building kits are the most popular because they do not take up that much room. For more info see modelrailroadshelp. com/ on Model Rail Road

As far as model making kits go, you have to fully read the contents before choosing one, as well as weighing up just how much you room you have for each individual set. As long as a model railroad building kit has a locomotive, most people are happy. However, some just look for the track because the locomotive cannot run without them! Whatever you decide, it is then up to you to make the most of your model railroad building kit!

Dealing with car salesmen

Who hasn’t seen that popular depiction of a car salesman as a slick, smooth-talking con artist out to sell you what seems to be a serviceable enough automobile, only to have it break down as soon as you drive off the car lot? This scenario has been used in countless movies and comic strips; unfortunately it’s not very funny if you are on the receiving end of a lemon.

We’re certainly not suggesting that all car dealers are unscrupulous hucksters lying in white for the next pigeon to come along but the sad reality is that there are people who, while not entirely deceitful, may "neglect" to mention hidden defects or slap you with a surprise bill for "additional" costs. Understanding your rights as a consumer and learning how to negotiate from a position of strength will go a long way in helping you get the best possible automobile deal for your money.

When you are first making inquiries at various automobile dealerships for a car you wish to purchase, take the opportunity to get a feel for the salesperson at each of the particular branches; to test drive them so to speak. It is important to take this crucial step before you get into the nitty-gritty of bargaining.

Trust your instincts; is this person someone you will want to deal with for such an important transaction? Do they inspire trust in you and make you feel comfortable? You will want to deal with a person who shows genuine concern about giving you what you need yet informed enough to suggest better alternatives.

On the other hand, if a salesperson is impatient or too insistent or possibly even downright rude, walk away; you don’t need the aggravation and there are certainly many much more accommodating car dealerships that will help you out.

Make sure you test-drive your potential car as much as is reasonably necessary and ask all the questions you need to know no matter how trivial; a good salesperson will know that every little question is a legitimate concern and it is reasonable to expect thoroughness on the part of a customer.

Another thing to be sure of is that the salesperson is clear and straightforward in all the aspects of the planned purchase.

It’s true: a salesperson’s ultimate goal is to close the sale. But there are good, knowledgeable salespeople out there who will not be afraid to suggest a totally different solution even if it affects his commission.

Auto shop safety

In today’s auto shop there are many potential hazards to the fragile human body. In order to have a safe and productive work environment, there are simple steps that need to be taken in order to insure the physical safety of everyone in your automotive service shop. There are many tools and pieces of equipment in use that can potentially seriously injure someone. The first step is to take census of your auto or mechanical shop and locate machinery and tools that can be potentially hazardous. Any machine or tool that can cause a serious injury must be safeguarded. For example, a band saw is common tool in a mechanical shop and has the ability to cut off fingers and limbs. This piece of equipment needs to be safeguarded and all applicable safety features should be correctly installed. It is all too common to the plastic safety guards removed on a table saw because they are in the way of the operator. Safety cannot be sacrificed for convenience.

But remember machinery is not the only hazard, you need to be aware of in the shop. The power cords and air hoses that power equipment also presents a tripping hazard. Many auto shops have several air hoses and power cords stretched all over the place and most of them are not even being used at the moment. To combat this problem and help keep your shop floor clutter free we recommend using an air hose reel. Air hose reels are mounted on the shop walls and are usually self retracting. When a mechanic finishes working with his air tools, the air hose can be retracted and stored with a quick tug on the hose. There are similar devices for extension cords as well. Lets face it, a mechanic is much more inclined to keep his air hoses and power cords retracted if its easy and an air hose reel makes it easy. Also, spilled grease oil and oil can collect on a shop floor and produce a slipping hazard. It is inevitable that motor oil and grease will end up on the concrete floor. Most auto shops have containment spill kits that can contain the oil spill and aid in cleaning it up the minute it happens.

The next level of safety is the person. Once the auto shop is a safe and secure environment, you will need to consider the mechanics and other workers in the area. Eye protection should be worn at all times. There is almost always some type of work going on that is a potential hazard your fragile eyes. For example, grinders and needle scalers are capable of throwing debris a long way from the point of contact. People working in the same area are in just as much danger is the operator using the tool. Also, chemicals and gasoline can be splashed onto unprotected eyes causing anything from mild discomfort to blindness.

Hand and feet protection is usually fairly obvious. Most mechanics wear gloves to prevent burns and cutting while working on automobile. But gloves are also needed for a variety of other tasks as well. Do not handle chemicals and solvents with out wearing gloves and remember to remove watches and other jewelry as well. Always be aware of where you fingers are especially when lifting heavy objects. It may seem obvious but it is all too common to crush your fingers by letting a heavy object down on them. Mechanics gloves are a great choice when you need to work with small parts and tools. Mechanics gloves are light and tight fitting on your hand. This allows you to feel the parts and tools and still maintain protection. For your feet, there are advanced mechanic shoes that help you gain traction on oily floors and boots with steel toes to protect you from heavy objects.

Safety in the auto shop requires some basic common sense and attention to detail. A safe work environment is a combination of both the work area and the workers themselves. It is everyone’s responsibility to make sure the proper safety gear is worn and the rules are followed.

Shopping for a fuel efficient car

Buying and running a motor car can be a very expensive business as most of us motorists will know. We take into account the colour of the car, how it looks, and the bodywork and of course the price but one thing we should also consider when shopping for our car is how fuel efficient it is. It may seem like a good deal when you buy it, but is it really going to be cost effective if you are throwing money at a ‘gas guzzler’?

The internet can help you make a good choice. You can visit a site called fueleconomy. gov to get the emission ratings and mileage of all cars which are currently on sale. Another good reference site which you can use is Edmunds. com. Here you will be able to see the top ten most fuel efficient cars for 2006 which will give you a good indication how your choice of car would perform.

By doing your research in to potential fuel costs, you could well be surprised just how much fuel a certain make and type of car will eat up.

Of course the majority of us realise that the smaller the car then the more efficient it is going to be, so take this into account. A manual car rather than an automatic will also get you more miles to the gallon.

In the past the diesel car got a bad reputation for being smelly and noisy. However, with advancements you can now no longer tell if the car is diesel. Diesel is also known now to be more fuel efficient.

Just because you are buying a used car doesn’t mean you cannot get one that’s fuel efficient. Fuel efficient cars have been around for a long time, so you can still get a bargain while saving money on the cost of running it.
